Braided Garlic Sticks

I can never resist a warm yeasted bread or pastry, I’m an addict. If you give me a yeasted baked good, I’ll be your friend for life.
Now picture these braided garlic sticks as soon as they come out of the oven. Brush them generously with garlic, the aroma wafting through the air. The sticks are warm and soft, and so delicious. I was hooked and I make these over and over again, they’re a huge hit in my house.

Makes 19 sticks

500 grams flour with yeast (half a kilo)
1 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1/3 cup oil
1 tsp minced garlic
1 cup lukewarm water

1/3 cup oil
1 tsp minced garlic

1. Place all the ingredients in the bowl of a mixer, mix until you get a soft and smooth dough. Let rise for around 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

2. Divide the dough into 19 pieces, roll each piece into an oval shape and then roll it up. Repeat with the remaining pieces.

3. Roll each roll into a 30 cm long roll, cut down the middle and wrap around each other.

4. Preheat an oven to 180°C.

5. Let rise for 10-15 minutes, brush with the egg and bake for around 15 minutes.

  1. Mix the ingredients for the coating together and brush over the sticks when they come out of the oven.

Enjoy! Freezer-friendly.

Served with: onion soup and dried tomatoes
