Cheese Burekas Pie

This is one of the easiest pastries out there, and you won’t believe how easy it is until you actually make it. Prepare with cheeses you usually have on hand, pop it in the oven for 30 minutes, and soon your home will be filled with the most divine aroma of warm golden burekas. People will be lining up to taste these when they come out of the oven!
Served with a salad or cut veggies it makes a perfect casual meal for the family or one that you can proudly serve when you have guests. Make and enjoy!


1 package of phyllo dough / puff pastry
250 grams cottage cheese
200 grams soft white cheese (4 heaped Tbsp)
2 Tbsp flour
100 grams grated Mozzarella / cheese of choice
50 grams grated Kashkaval / cheese of choice
2 medium eggs or 1 large egg
Ground black pepper
1 tsp salt


1. Preheat an oven to 180°C.

2. Place a sheet of parchment paper on an oven tray. Cut half of the dough and place on the parchment paper.

3. Mix all the filling ingredients and spread evenly over the dough, leaving “clean” margins all around.

4. Beat the egg for the wash and brush over the margins. Lay the other half of the dough over the first half with the filling, and press the top and bottom margins together to seal the edges. Brush the top with the egg wash. Score the top into squares for easier portioning when it’s ready, and sprinkle sesame seeds
