Cream of wheat
I make this amazing porridge with minimal effort. It takes me less than 10 minutes from stove to table. On cold winter days this is one of the best things to eat. A nice hot bowl of cream of wheat with all the toppings.
I like to play around with the toppings and surprise the kids with something new each time.
By the way, it’s so filling that you don’t need to serve it with anything else.
Some recipes are fun to make
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients:
480 ml milk (2 cups)
240 ml water (1 cup)
8 Tbsp semolina
120 grams sugar (1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp)
Pinch of salt
Preparation:
1. Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat it up. In the meantime, in a bowl, mix water and semolina really well and when the milk is hot, add the semolina and cook for two minutes on low-medium heat while stirring to prevent lumps. When the porridge thickens, add the sugar and salt and stir. Remove from the heat.
2. Divide into serving bowls and eat right away.
A few options:
Before I dish up the porridge in a bowl, I place 2-3 squares of chocolate (whichever type you like) at the bottom of the bowl and then add the porridge. The heat from the porridge melts the chocolate. When my son starts eating, a surprise awaits him at the bottom of the bowl. All of a sudden, his spoon hits molten chocolate. Such a look of delight on his face!
Add a heaped teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to the porridge or drizzle on top.
Sprinkle Smarties / chocolate chips before serving.
Sprinkle cinnamon, grated chocolate, banana slices, chopped walnuts or pecans.
Add a small pat of butter.
Add different toppings like dulce de leche, chocolate spread, jam, whatever you want.
Good to know…
It’s best to add less sugar and then taste and decide if you want it sweeter. If you want to add sweet toppings before serving, then use less sugar in the recipe. This porridge is best made and eaten right away. It’s just not the same if made in advance and eaten later.
Both young and old alike love this cream of wheat. You will too!
It’s a winning recipe! Ten minutes is all it takes to make and serve this bowl of deliciousness.
