Never Fail Tuna Patties Recipe
I love tuna patties. They taste great and tuna is a pantry staple in almost every household, making these a great choice when you want something readily available.
Tuna is a great source of protein and makes a perfect meal when served with a side salad, fresh bread and rice. This recipe makes tender and flavorful patties.
The sauce is incredible and ranks way up there for among the best sauces for patties. I actually don’t know what I like better – the patties or the sauce.
We used some challah to mop up the sauce and it was so tasty! I recommend watching the video before you make these. I explain regarding frying the patties.
Makes 3 servings
Ingredients:
2 cans of tuna packed in oil / water (each 160 grams)
1 small sweet potato / carrot / potato
70 grams flour (1/2 cup)
1 egg
1 onion
1 tsp paprika
1 Tbsp chicken bouillon
Ground black pepper
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, sliced
1 level tsp flour
2 finely chopped tomatoes
1 Tbsp honey
2 cups water
1 Tbsp lemon juice (not mandatory)
1 Tbsp Moroccan paprika
Pinch of sugar
1 Tbsp chicken bouillon
Ground black pepper
Salt (if needed, to taste)
Preparation:
1. Chop the onion, heat a pan with 2 Tbsp of oil and sauté the onion for around two minutes. Thinly slice the garlic and add to onion. Sauté for another 2 minutes.
2. I recommend draining the tuna before adding it to the recipe. Break up the tuna into a bowl, add the other ingredients including the onion, form ping pong-sized patties and flatten.
3. Add 1 Tbsp of oil to a pan and fry the patties on both sides until golden. Remove and set aside.
4. To prepare the sauce:
Chop the onion and garlic. Sauté the onion for around two minutes, add the garlic for a quick sauté then add the flour and mix until dissolved. Chop the tomatoes (I prefer peeling them first) and add to the pan along with the honey, sugar, spices and water. Cook for a few minutes.
5. Add the tuna patties to the sauce and cook for 10 minutes on low-medium heat.
So good!
Good to know…
You can make the patties a day beforehand and add to the sauce when you want to serve them. You can make the entire recipe the day before. Want to add a bit of heat? Leave out the honey, add a bit more sugar and sauté half a hot pepper / chili pepper with the onion.
Don’t want to fry these? No problem, bake the tuna patties.
