Orange cake

I love the aroma of an orange cake baking in the oven. I make this one often, the golden color and incredible aroma. A classic cake for Shabbat, light and airy, moist and golden, with the delicious flavor of oranges. Make it and you’ll enjoy every bite.

26 cm or A4 sized baking tin


4 eggs
300 grams sugar (1.5 cups)
180 ml orange juice (3/4 cup)
120 ml oil (1/2 cup)
350 grams self-raising flour (2.5 cups)
2.5 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of sugar


1. Place the eggs in the bowl of a mixer and start beating on low speed, then slowly add the sugar and increase the mixer speed to medium-high for 2-3 minutes.

2. Lower the speed and add the oil, orange juice, flour, and baking powder. Mix on low speed until well combined.

3. Preheat an oven to 180°C.

4. Grease a baking tin and sprinkle a small amount of sugar on the bottom, then pour in the batter and bake for around 45 minutes or until the cake is set and golden.
