Recipe for Delicious Tuna Balls

This is one of the tastiest things I’ve ever made from a can. I know these little cans don’t look like much, but they can be a real savior when you want a quick and tasty meal.
Some days I just don’t feel like eating meat, but I want something filling and these patties really do the trick! To be honest, these are also amazing without the sauce,
they’re perfect inside a pita with some veggies. An easy and tasty recipe that will warm your heart and your tummy.

Makes 20 patties

Ingredients:

320 gr. 2 boxes of 160 gr. tuna
1 egg
1 small grated potato
2 spoons oil
1/3 cup Breadcrumbs
1 spoon Ketchup
2 spoons parsley
Crushed black pepper
Salt

The Sauce:

2 finely chopped onions
1 spoon brown sugar
2.5 cups water
2 cups peas and carrots
1/2 spoon flour
1 spoon sweet Paprika
1 flat tsp. Turmeric
1/3 tsp. Cinnamon
1 flat spoon soup powder
Crushed black pepper
Salt

Preparation:

1. Grate the potato on the large holes of a box grater. Mix together all the patty ingreidents, including the grated potato and form little patties. If you feel that the patties are bit watery, squeeze until the liquid drains out.

2. Options:
To fry: Heat 3-4 Tbsp of oil in a pan and fry the patties until golden. Flip and fry the other side until golden as well. Remove to drain on a plate lined with absorbent paper towel.

To bake: Refrigerate the patties for around 30 minutes. Preheat an oven to 180°C. Line a tray with greased parchment paper and place the patties on the paper. Bake for around 20-25 minutes or until golden. Flip and bake on the other side for another 15 minutes.

3. Chop the onion. Heat 3-4 Tbsp of oil in a pan and add the onion, sautéing until lightly golden. Add the sugar and mix until dissolved. Add the flour and mix until it dissolves as well.

4. Add the water and spices, cook for 5 minutes and add the carrots and peas. Cook for another 10 minutes, add the patties and cook for 15 minutes more. Give the pot a little shake occasionally and add a bit of water if you think the pot needs topped up with liquid.

Served with basmati rice and dried tomatoes
