Savory Mushroom and Onion Pastry
I could eat these pastries morning and night. They’re so easy to make and unbelievably tasty.
You can serve these as an appetizer if you have guests or serve alongside a bowl of soup, or for supper when you want something a bit out of the ordinary.
Lunch? Sure! It works with everything.
I wanted these to be special. Read the recipe or watch the video to understand what I’ve done.
Sometimes a little twist will take your dish to the next level! I have to say that they are especially appealing this way. Place a platter of these on the table and watch how quickly they disappear. Make a lot and be prepared for your newest pastry crush!
Makes 15 pastries
15 champignon mushrooms
4 cloves of garlic
3-4 Tbsp oil
Puff pastry (around half a package)
1 green onion
Ground black pepper
1 egg, beaten
1. Dice the onion. Heat a pan with oil and sauté the onion, stirring occasionally until the onion is golden, which takes a few minutes. Chop the garlic and add to the onion, sautéing until golden. Slice the mushrooms and add to the pan, sauté for two minutes, season with salt and pepper and remove from the heat.
2. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
3. Cut the dough into 8 x 8 cm squares. Use a knife to score a frame in each square (see photo). Place a full Tbsp of the filling in the center of each square, leaving the “frame” clear. Brush the frame with the egg wash.
4. Put in the oven and bake for 25 minutes. Before serving, sprinkle chopped green onion over each pastry.
Simple and tasty.
