Shepherd's pie recipe

This is a classic family-friendly dish.
It may seem complicated but it’s actually really easy to prepare!
There’s a layer of seasoned ground beef topped with a layer of creamy mashed potatoes. Bake them together and the magic happens! The juices from the meat get soaked up a bit by the mashed potatoes and the overall flavor is amazing. This is a bit of a messy dish, though, and doesn’t slice neatly, but that’s one of the best parts about it, that everything gets mixed together on the plate and in your mouth.
A great dish to make that’ll definitely be a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients:

500 grams ground beef
1 medium onion

Spices:
1 tsp Moroccan paprika
1/2 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp chicken bouillon
1/3 tsp ground black pepper
Salt (if necessary, to taste)

4 potatoes
3 Tbsp oil
1/3 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp salt

Preparation:

1. Peel the potatoes and cook them until they’re soft.

2. Chop the onion, heat 2 Tbsp of oil and sauté the onion until slightly golden. Add the ground beef and break it up as you sauté it. Cook for around 10 minutes until the beef is cooked through and changes its color. Add the spices, mix, cook for two more minutes and remove from the heat.

3. Preheat an oven to 180°C.

4. Evenly spread the beef in the baking dish. Mash the potatoes with the oil and seasoning. Evenly spread the mashed potatoes over the meat and score the surface with a fork.

5. Bake for 30 minutes.

Good to know…
You can make the meat mixture the day before, and then add the mashed potatoes before baking. If you like sweet potatoes, you can mix the two or substitute completely. I don’t recommend using ground chicken. Beef or lamb work best here.
If you make this a day before, you’ll get cracks int the potato topping, but it won’t affect the taste.
