Soft and Fluffy Chocolate Buns
The smell of yeast and chocolate filling the house is simply the best! These chocolate buns are the
perfect fix when I’m craving something sweet, warm, and comforting without spending hours fussing with complicated doughs.
This recipe is one of the easiest out there because I roll the dough into a sheet, then cut it into small rectangles and fill them with chocolate, which significantly cuts down on shaping time. The secret is that there’s no chocolate spread that gets all over your hands here, there’s just a dark chocolate cube that melts while baking, creating the perfect combination of soft, airy dough and a bubbling filling.
It was so cute seeing the chocolate peeking out at the end! These buns are snatched up right out of the oven before they even get a chance to cool, and they always remind me of how simple and fun it is to bake at home.
36 Units
Ingredients:
300 g flour (2 cups plus 2 tablespoons)
Half a tablespoon of dry yeast
A tablespoon of sugar
A teaspoon of salt
160 ml of warm water (a little less than three-quarters of a cup)
60 ml of canola oil (a quarter of a cup)
A package of dark chocolate
Preparation:
1.) Place the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in the mixer. Mix lightly, and then add the rest of the
ingredients. Knead until a smooth, soft, and slightly sticky dough forms.
–
2.) Cover the dough and set it aside in a warm place for about 1.5 hours or until it doubles in volume.
–
3.) Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll each part into a square about the size of 25×25 cm. Place the chocolate cubes at intervals, one next to the other, along the top section of the dough (slightly after the beginning of the rectangle).
–
4.) Place the edge of the dough over the chocolate cubes. Roll the dough twice (two full rolls). Stop and slice the roll. Using a knife or a dough scraper, cut the roll into small pieces (a total of 6 rolls, with each roll yielding 6 units). Transfer the buns to a baking pan.
–
5.) Preheat the oven in advance to 180°C/356°F (the buns keep rising while the oven heats up). Brush the buns with egg yolk and sprinkle some sesame on top. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until they turn golden.
