Oatmeal
A warm bowl of oatmeal with yummy toppings is comfort food at its best and super nutritious with minimal effort.
I always crave this recipe on cold wintery mornings.
It fills my belly and makes me feel good.
This recipe is super simple and really only requires three ingredients and less than 10 minutes to make.
A great idea for a filling breakfast or supper, and it’s very customizable to everyone’s preferences. I’ve given a few tips on what to serve with the oatmeal, which will appeal to younger and older palates alike. There’s a video showing just how easy it is
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients:
100 grams whole oats (not instant oats) (1 cup)
480 ml boiling water (2 cups)
240 ml milk (1 cup)
40 g sugar (2 Tbsp)
Pinch of salt
You don’t need to a lot of ingredients to make great recipes 🙂
Preparation:
1. Place the milk, water, oats and salt in a saucepan. Stir and bring to a boil then lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Add the sugar and cook for 3-4 minutes while stirring constantly until the oatmeal thickens. It’s important to keep mixing so that the oatmeal doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
2. As soon as the oatmeal thickens, remove from the heat and divide into bowls.
Tips:
You don’t have to use sugar. First taste and then decide whether and how much sweetener you want to add.
You can serve with slices of banana, apple, walnuts, raisins, cranberries, cinnamon, and strawberries when in season.
You can place a small (or large) piece of chocolate at the bottom of the bowl and spoon the hot oatmeal on top. The chocolate will slowly melt into the oatmeal. You can also grate chocolate on top.
You can also serve with honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, everything goes. You can also use only water instead of the milk.
