When the craving hits for something savory, cheesy, and satisfying, these Quick & Easy Crispy Cheese Rolls are the answer. They require just a handful of ingredients and minimal prep time, making them a fantastic option for a last-minute snack, a casual party appetizer, or an enjoyable addition to any meal. The combination of the creamy cheese filling with the golden, flaky crust is truly irresistible.
10 Rolls
Ingredients:
10 Filo pastry sheets
The Filling:
Egg L
250 g cottage cheese (box)
3 tablespoons flour
50 g grated Bulgarian / Safed cheese
100 g grated cheese
Half a teaspoon of salt
Whisked egg
Preparation:
1.) Making the Filling:
Mix all of the filling ingredients together in one bowl until a smooth mixture. It should look like
something delicious you could eat with a spoon (but resist the urge!). Transfer the mixture into a piping bag. This is a small tip that prevents a lot of mess and ensures a professional-looking, smooth filling.
–
2.) Rolling the Cigars:
Lay a filo pastry sheet on the table. No pressure, if one tears, it only means it’s time to start over again! Pipe a nice, generous line of filling onto the upper part of the sheet. Don’t be stingy, the filling delivers the whole flavor! Brush over the edges with a whisked egg (it’s the best glue out there). Fold the sides (right and left) inwards and roll the cigar downwards until you have a roll.
–
3.) (Frying/Baking):
Frying Option (The Crispiest and Most Fun):
Preheat a pan over medium heat, using enough oil to reach about 3/4 of the roll’s height. When the oil is hot (but not smoking!), place the rolls inside. Fry until they turn golden, achieving a color that is a shame not to photograph, and become incredibly crispy! Place the rolls on a paper towel. This is the hardest part, because the smell makes you want to snatch one immediately.
–
*Baking Option (The “Healthier” Choice):
Preheat the oven to 180°C/356°F. Brush over the rolls with a little olive oil or whisked egg to ensure they turn golden. Bake for about minutes, or until they are crispy and beautiful.
–
4.) Serving the Rolls:
Serve hot, hot, hot! Alongside grated tomatoes (the best friend of these rolls) and fresh vegetables.
