Best Dairy Free Brownie Recipe

One of my favorite recipes to make is brownies—and luckily my kids are always excited about them. What is it about these little squares that bring so much joy? Dense chocolate texture, moistness, rich flavor—all packed into a tiny one-bite square that makes you reach for another.

(a 20×30 cm (8×12 in) pan was used for this recipe)

Ingredients:

200g dark chocolate
3 eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar
150g (3/4 cup) white sugar
180ml (3/4 cup) canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
180g (1 cup + 4 tablespoons) flour
1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons white chocolate chips

Preparation:

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) about 10 minutes in advance.

2. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place them in a large bowl with the oil. Melt in the microwave and stir until smooth.

3. Whisk the eggs and white sugar with a fork, then add them to the melted chocolate while stirring quickly. Stir in the brown sugar and vanilla extract. Finally, add the flour.

4. Set aside 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and fold the remaining chocolate chips into the batter (it will be a bit thick, but that’s fine).

5. Grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top.

6. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Allow to cool, then cut into squares.

Good to know…
You can leave the brown sugar out and use 1 cup of white sugar instead. Also, if you prefer to substitute 180 grams of butter instead of the oil, go right ahead. Don’t feel like chocolate chips? Make them without. Want to add nuts? Decrease the amount of flour by 1/3 of a cup and add 1/3 cup of ground walnuts or pecans. Don’t have any vanilla extract? You can replace the vanilla extract with the same amount of vanilla sugar.
Freezer-friendly. You can also make these a day or two in advance and keep them in the fridge. These don’t need to be refrigerated. You can keep them on the countertop.
Consider making a double batch, they’re that good!
